Common Problems

Signs your boat needs service.

Marine equipment issues often appear gradually. These are the most common problems our technicians see on outboards and pontoons.

01
Engine Won’t Start
Stale fuel, a weak battery, or a failed ignition component are common causes of no-start — especially at the beginning of the boating season after winter storage.
02
Overheating
A failed water pump impeller is the most common cause of overheating on outboard motors. Impeller failure can cause serious engine damage quickly — address overheating immediately.
03
Loss of Power or Rough Running
A damaged propeller, clogged fuel system, or fouled spark plugs reduce top-end speed and cause rough operation at cruise RPM. Fuel system and propeller service restore performance.
04
Electrical Problems
Battery failure, corroded connections, and failed bilge pump switches are common on boats used in wet environments. We inspect and repair the full electrical system.
05
Steering Hard to Turn or Loose
A dry or corroded steering cable, worn helm, or low hydraulic fluid (hydraulic steering) causes heavy or imprecise steering. Proper steering is critical for on-water safety.
06
Trim & Tilt Not Working
A failed trim motor, low hydraulic fluid, or a faulty trim relay prevents the motor from trimming properly. Correct trim affects fuel economy, handling, and performance.
