Common Problems

Signs your equipment needs service.

Handheld equipment problems often start small. These are the most common issues our technicians see.

01
Won’t Start or Hard to Start
Stale fuel is the leading cause — especially after sitting over winter or a long break. Fresh fuel and a fuel system service resolve most starting problems.
02
Won’t Rev Up or Bogs Down
A blocked fuel filter, cracked fuel line, or restricted fuel system prevents proper fuel delivery and limits top-end power. Fuel system service restores performance.
03
Chain Won’t Engage or Bar Smoke
A dull chain, clogged oiler, or clogged bar groove causes bar overheating and poor cutting. Bar and chain service, plus oiler inspection, address the root cause.
04
Trimmer Head Problems
Line that won’t advance, a jammed spool, or a cracked trimmer head are common wear items. We inspect and replace trimmer heads, spools, and line as needed.
05
Loss of Power at Full Throttle
Air filter restriction or a partially blocked exhaust reduce full-throttle power. A tune-up typically resolves this immediately.
06
Runs Rich, Smokes, or Fouls Plugs
An overly rich fuel mixture causes fouled spark plugs, excessive smoke, and high fuel consumption. Fuel system service brings the mixture back into spec.

When to Service

Best times to bring your equipment in.

March – April
Pre-Season Service
Bring in trimmers, chainsaws, and blowers before the spring rush. Pre-season service ensures your equipment starts on the first pull and performs reliably when work is at its peak.
September – October
Fall Prep & Storage
Fall is the right time for leaf blower and chainsaw service heading into the busy fall season — and to properly store trimmers and other equipment not used in winter to prevent fuel system issues.

Customer Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Most handheld equipment tune-ups are completed within 1–3 business days. Repair turnaround typically runs 2–5 business days depending on parts availability.
Yes. We service all major brands, even if they were not purchased from us. Contact us with your make and model if you have questions.
Almost certainly. Stale fuel is the most common cause of no-start after storage — and is straightforward to service. Bring it in and we’ll get it running.
We inspect chain sharpness as part of chainsaw service. We can sharpen or replace the chain, and inspect the bar for wear as part of the service.
If our technicians identify issues beyond the original service request, we will contact you with our findings and provide an estimate before any additional work is performed.
Not generally. Contact our service department to check, as seasonality may affect availability.
